Becoming a Seller on Amazon – Step 1
For a while now I’ve been trying to get a side hustle going. One of my recent ventures is becoming a seller on Amazon. Like a lot of Americans I literally use Amazon for every purchase I can. It’s not that I don’t want to support other stores, but time is money and other stores take much longer to find what you’re looking for. Plus you can easily shop in the evening after work, allowing for some relaxing time at home instead of running to the store.
Back to the main subject, becoming a seller on Amazon. This isn’t rocket science to get started, but it does take some work. First off you have to get setup on sellercentral.amazon.com as opposed to amazon.com. Originally I thought they would be the same site, but they are two separate setups. The sign up is fairly easy, but if you are not a current business this will feel more official than expected. Becoming a seller on Amazon is becoming a business, so just take your time. Start thinking about the following…
- Business address
- Deposit methods
- Legal entity
- Tax information
Once your past the account information the next part you need to start considering is inventory. Now you may have already thought about what you want to sell, but becoming a seller on Amazon means a lot of competition. This wasn’t the first thought in my mind, but it becomes reality very quickly. If you are listing an existing product on Amazon you can search for that item and list it pretty quickly. However price and prime shipping is king on Amazon. I’m not going to go into prime shipping in this article, but these are all things you need to start brainstorming on.
- Are you selling an existing product or a new one?
- Do you have plan for offering competitive price?
- Will you do the shipping or offer prime?
