Happiness: Making Yourself a Priority
Today I’m reminded about what our end goal should always be… happiness. My day drifted in the complete opposite direction. If I had to summarize it in two words I’d say, stressful and unfulfilling. Sometimes when you’re in the daily routine it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Work, bills, and even family can wear you down to the core. It’ s not their initial intent, but it’s the inevitably outcome of fast paced world. Each day becomes a blurry whirlwind to the point where it’s hard to remember what you even did that day. This then results in our own needs being pushed aside while everyone else’s takes priority.
Is That OK Since I’m helping Other People?
Absolutely not, your happiness matters. If you’re unhappy not only is that noticeable, but it impacts everyone you deal with. For example when I let work run me into the ground my patience for my family is probably at 20% capacity. My family has to deal with a poor attitude for reasons they are not even aware of. Furthermore if you don’t lookout for yourself no one else will. I realize that may sound harsh, but let’s be honest. Employers don’t care nor do bill collectors. To them you’re just another account number used to meet their year end targets. At that point all you truly have left is family. And yes they do care about you, but if you perpetually live to please them they won’t even know what makes you happy.
Don’t Stop There
Once you come to those realizations start identifying the areas in your life creating stress. Most people, myself included, repeat the same stressful motions day in and day out. We’re so busy we never stop to think if these actions are creating happiness. As the old saying goes, the first step is admitting there is a problem. Once you check that box, you can then create a road map to end these daily cycles. Remember this will take time. It may be something as simple as paying your bills via a cell phone app or something as complex as finding a new job. Whatever it turns out to be, keep that box checked and make a sound plan to change those portions of your life. Not only will it make you a better person , but it will also benefit those in your life. Never forget your happiness matters.
