The less Traveled Bike Path, Commuting in the Winter
This week in the city we actually got some snow, perfect for taking the bike path less traveled! For those of you following from other parts of the country/world I realize this won’t look like much. However in the City of Portland this is actually a big deal. As soon as word spread that this was coming the shutdown began. While the Northwest mountains receive a ton of snow, the city itself is more mild. Yes it does rain most of the winter, but the temperature hovers around 40F which avoids the snow at our level. This is why urban bike commuting is an option 365 days a year.
Decisions
Waking up that morning the roads were cold and clear. Snow was expected to start at 10AM and continue throughout the day. As I stared out the window I thought to myself, what should I do today? I already knew most people in the office would be staying home, but since the roads were clear that didn’t feel like the right choice. Next I thought about taking a taxi/Uber considering I knew the conditions would be rough later. But before acting on that, I thought of my personal commitment to riding. To bicycle or not to bicycle this should be the question. Before I could overthink the situation I decided to take the bike path less traveled and bicycle into work.
Bike Path Less Traveled
Success comes in many forms. Sometimes it completing those huge financial goals you’ve been chasing for years, other days it’s little adventures like urban bike commuting in the snow. We should all remember that every single day can be ordinary, it’s depends on the paths you take. Simple choices such as how you commute to work everyday or what you do with your lunch time all have an impact. Not only can they impact the short term goals, but they often have an impact on the bigger picture. So next time you have to chose between the common bike path or the one less traveled
